Students Call for Action: “Congress: Improve background checks to reduce gun violence”

In the wake of this week’s shooting at Umpqua Community College, it is disheartening that our country is once again facing such a horrific tragedy, for the umpteenth time this year. As someone who lives with mental illness, I understand how easily a person with my condition can snap and make a horrible, irreversible decision, especially a person who has access to a lot of guns.

I just signed the petition created by Students Unite, “Congress: Improve background checks to reduce gun violence,” which is essentially seeking to improve information sharing with a specific interest in watching out for people with mental illness. Although I do not think that gun control is the only method of preventing further gun deaths, I do believe it will help aid the process. Please support this petition by clicking this link:

Thank you for your support. Together we can build a country that stands united, not divided.
